This post was not in the original slate of prompts I came up with, but sometimes life just hands you an idea to deal with.
I am writing this in the middle of a power outage. So while my last few posts were typewritten out of hobbyist whimsy, this one is somewhat more out of necessity (if we pretentd that pens don’t exist and that I don’t have way too many of them).
This thing (a Brother Charger 11) is all mechanical. No power, no problem. There are electric typewriters, by the way, I just don’t have any in my collection. I’m just sitting by the window writing by sunlight. I can hear the quieter sounds that come out in these moments when the bustle of modern life has been tamped down… I’m pretending I can, anyway. What I actually hear is mostly planes overhead and the carbon monoxide detector beeping that it’s backup battery is low.
And now we’re back, about half an hour later. It is much easier to look at this as a curious excursion when everything gets back to normal in time for dinner. Take care and stay electric!
