When I am browsing my feed reader, naturally I keep an eye out for posts to respond to or bookmark . Sometimes I can be quite surprised by what catches my attention.
Today it was a picture Robert Birming shared of a delicious looking cinnamon bun topped with ice cream.
Years ago (I can’t remember exactly how many), my dad and I took a trip to Glacier National Park in Montana in the United States. It’s a beautiful place with a lot of great trails to hike. But just outside the park there is a restaurant called Johnson’s. We ate there one night and I ordered what the menu called a cinnamon roll sundae. True to the name it was an ice cream sundae topped with a full size cinnamon roll.
I have plenty of memories from that trip, but the reason this one stuck with me was because of the size of the thing. It was massive even by American restaurant standards. It’s almost justified in this case since there is a good chance you’re eating this after a full day of hiking. Even so, it was really ridiculous. I can feel my blood sugar spiking just thinking about it.
I’ve never read In Search Of Lost Time, though I have a secondhand copy of the first part that has been sitting on my bookshelf for many years. But of course I have heard of the famous scene of the madeline-induced flashback. This was something similar, even without actually smelling or tasting anything. Some things, for the strangest reasons, leave a much deeper impression than you would ever expect.
