Casual Project Management
March 8, 2025
I have a bunch of personal projects in the works right now. Since they’re just for me, there’s no particular priorities. And certainly no deadlines. While this is more relaxing than work projects, it does make it easy to just sit in indecision and not do anything on any of them. And, you know, sometimes I’ve had a long week and that’s just what’s called for: a weekend of lazily relaxing.
But this weekend I feel more motivated. I have devised a new system that has served me very well for the last twelve hours now. I have all my different projects written on a stack of index cards. And then I shuffle the cards and work on whatever I get for half an hour or until I hit some milestone. Then I repeat. It’s a rather ADHD way of doing things, as I’m still pinballing through different things, but it’s been a productive day of that. I’m inclined to give it another try.
To be clear, “projects” is a bit too serious of a word. It’s just an encompassing one. One of my cards just says to read. Another is to write a letter to my friend that I’ve been procrastinating on. Even having fun can take a bit of organization sometimes.
